Another day, another raft of strange new Trump cabinet picks.

In the Late Show clip above Stephen Colbert goes through the latest ones, from Matt Gaetz being named attorney general ("next year the Justice Department is implementing a new 'Take your daughter far away from work' day," says Colbert), to "MAGA minion and Cruella da Village Idiot" Tulsi Gabbard as national intelligence director.

Colbert then moves on to Trump's defence secretary pick: Fox News host Pete Hegseth, who said on TV back in 2019 that he hadn't washed his hands "for 10 years", adding about germs: "I can't see them, therefore they're not real."

"OK, so now we know his strategy for the war in Ukraine," says Colbert, before covering his eyes with both hands. "We did it, the fighting is over!" Uncover. "Oh no, who started this war!" Cover. "Oh thank God, we achieved peace." Uncover. "Oh no, I gave myself pink eye."
