UPDATE: Nov. 6, 2024, 5:40 a.m. EST Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States, declared by the Associated Press at 05:37 a.m. ET.

After a long night of election coverage, Jon Stewart shared some parting words with the Daily Show audience in which he offered both a warning and a message of hope.

In the three-minute clip above the host gives numerous examples of pundits making confident post-election declarations in the past, all of which turned out to be completely wrong. "We're gonna come out of this election and make all kind of pronouncements about what this country is and what this world is, and the truth is we're not really gonna know shit," Stewart says.

"This isn't the end. I promise you, this is not the end. And we have to regroup, and we have to continue to fight, and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible. It's possible."
